GURGAON: Fear of speaking in public has embarrassed many socially every now and then. However, residents of Gurgaon do not have much to worry because they have experts to train them in public speaking and sharpen their leadership skills.
With a registered growth of 60% a year, Toastmasters International is the oldest in the field. People belonging to different age groups and backgrounds seek help from the institute.
For instance, Sumeet Miglani, who works in
IBM said, “Many of us have the technical knowledge required to work in a multinational company, but sometimes one might face a difficulty in explaining the idea or, for that matter, speaking effectively. Therefore, many of us opt for public speaking classes which help to speak, listen and lead.”
First Personality has been conducting workshops on public speaking for the past 16 years. “Earlier, during the first few years of its establishment, residents of Gurgaon were apprehensive, but over the years they have warmed up to this aspect of personality development,” said Prashant Sharma, instructor at First Personality. Public speaking is an integral part of curriculum from play schools to corporate houses.
Snigdha, a school teacher, said “As a teacher, it is important to communicate your thoughts, which is impossible, if one is shy. Public speaking for that matter is integral to every profession.”
Even though the market for these courses is vast in the corporate sector, one will also find young children, housewives, youths and aged people actively participating in them.
Inlingua International School of Language is another institute that has experienced a steady growth in the attendance of such courses.
